STREETSCAPES and COMMUNITY DESIGN All great communities have a common factor of good streetscape design and a recognizable framework for the public open space that creates a sense of identity and visual character. Streetscape design is comprised of many factors that include road way design, traffic geometrics and parking configurations. The vernacular of the design elements such as landscaping; surface paving; street lighting; planters; signage and site amenities provide a language of design. Good community planning practices foster community identity and sustainable growth, while preserving the character of the existing natural systems.
